Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you have any pics or have actually obtained an authentic-original 'Delta, CAG, stockade, et. al.' Challenge coins? I've seen the copies and what some are trying to pass off as authentic on ebay. I've yet to see the real Mccoy. Anyone have any pics they would share here?

Ok, I've been asking around and this is what I was told from a reliable source. No pics yet but I'm working on them. I thought this may help other fellow authentic SF challenge coin collectors out there. I guess in a way this may be self defeating as you all may get in a bidding war with me if we see the same item. Yet, I think it's important to be able to tell the difference and know what is real vs what is intended solely through deception to generate revenue.

Quote from: Reliable Source

ACE ,

Search around, and the ones on ebay now beware all of them are knockoffs.  If you see anything different, buy it.  The individual operator coins look just like the brass and silver ones on ebay, but the knife handles on the legit ones are longer and comes down and almost touches the outer ring/rim of the coin.

Also, on one older one of mine, the name place on the back is not rectangular, it is curved under the eagle.   The silver and gold plated ones are not legit.

On the multi-colored coin, the legit one has a gray colored blade with a line down the center. The Korean copy has a white blade, no center line and is smaller.  Legit one is of much better quality. There's also a CSM, a Commander's coin, a Scholarship Fund and a 30th Anniversary out there, to be found plus a couple of others....
Hooah, out Here!

I know what you mean about self defeating.  Every time I post advice on something, I feel like I am hurting my own wallet.  In the end, I feel better for it and maybe that helps me more than keeping the advice a secret.

Best wishes,

ACE unfortunately the last coin there has been copied for years. I am unsure about the colored version but I would imagine it's available.

I have sold a few of each version.  At quick glance, I can't tell the difference between your photo and what I have sold.  I have not studied spec ops coins to the point where I know much about them on a case by case basis yet.  I had no idea the coins I sold were even valuable, or copies of valuable coins for that matter.  Whatever the case may have been with them.

Here is a link to all my listings with the word special operations in them:

ACE unfortunately the last coin there has been copied for years. I am unsure about the colored version but I would imagine it's available.

I agree with you the silver version pictured above is all over and been copied I'm sure much to the chagrin of this unit. I have also seen it in a 'brass' and 'zinc' versions as well. Here's another pic of a copy from ebay.

Here is another look at the authentic version as depicted from "militarycoins.com"

As mentioned above I've spoken to some of the guys in the community and I was given the description I posted at the top of this thread. I'm also sure that you'll notice the 'knife' even on the uncolored ones should touch both the top and bottom of the coin. This is best illustrated from the pics I posted off military coins above. I also believe another key here would be the 'thickness'. I'm told the authentic variant is 'extremely thick and heavy.'

The real kicker though is that they may at some point have used the 'Korean vendor' and actually given out the ones that are like the copies but as aforementioned are alot 'thicker' than those on ebay. This is speculation on my part as the the picture above came from a guy that regularly deals with the unit  and he sent me the pic of the silver coin I posted above. He states he got his from one of the 'squadron commanders' and because of his profession would know and could back that statement up. So there's the rub ladies and gents.

The colored version above is abit different from the 'copies' available on 'ebay' and elsewhere. Here is a pic of the most common ebay colored 'Korean copy'.

You'll notice the color of the blade is wrong and the center line down the blade is missing as well. Here is the pic from above again:

There are some other subtle differences as well. I started this thread because I hadn't seen any information about this anywhere online or in the 'challenge coin' community. Since it's an extremely rare coin and one that is hard to come by in the 'authentic-original' capacity I thought I would do some research and see what I could do to help others who may also be looking to collect these and add them to their collection. Another point of reference for those reading is that there are also 'squadron' coins which are quite different, than those posted above and I've never seen them posted-depicted anywhere. If anyone were to be able to get one of those that would be a super rare addition to their collection.

HTH,
ACE844

Also, here is a pic from one of Deltas former commanders on his book is a pic of the 'brass version' . The name Dalton Fury is a pseudonym, and apparently his writing this 'unauthorized book' has caused a lot of dissension in the community.

Again I'm sure you'll note the 'dagger' touches both the top and bottom of the coin. Also, I hope that if any of our other members have any authentic original pics of coins from this unit I hope they'll feel free to post them and share them with the rest of us.
