Everyone,

I was wondering do any of you know whether some manufacturers are using polyurethane clearcoat on some of the newer coins. I have a few Authentic OIF coins that appear and feeling like they have a 'coat or more' of 'clear' on them. It would intuitively make sense to use, so what do you all think? Do you have coins like this? Is it an emerging trend? Do you like it better than epoxy?

I don't use this but I am unsure if there are places that have picked up this practice or not. Is it an obvious coating?

Not on the coins I make.  I strongly discourage a coat of anything.  However, I am not educated on polyurethane on coins.  This is the first I have ever heard it mentioned.

It's just like the 'clearcoat' which is painted over the colored paint on your car. It would I presume also have the same principle as well as a 'protective' coating for the color on your coin.

The antique gold (not brass) gives this illusion, but I don't know the plating in question. When I had used this plating for the first time I almost thought there was a clear coat but this was not the case. What kind of plating was it?

It's a silver color, my guess is 'zinc'? But it does have what look like real gold flakes in the coin, maybe that is the coating your talking about?

I have never heard of it. The only other thing I have heard of and tested was the UV cure clear coat which I did not like.
