Everyone,

I not all that long ago started a thread here: http://www.uschallengecoins.com/Forum/index.php/topic,763.0.html  about the classified unit known in popular culture as 'Delta Force'. I also posted as much info and pics about their coins as I could find so some of the other SF coin collectors wouldn't get fleeced getting fakes while thinking they might be the genuine article.

I thought I would also do the same for the other elite unit which is a combination of the former SEAL Team 6 and Red Cell. They are known as the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. This unit along with 'Delta' and a few others have our most elite, capable, and secret warriors assigned to them. Initially I wasn't going to do this thread but I have also seen a few fakes of this coin popping up and the most recent is a colored 'Korean' copy.

Here is the fake:

Listing ID: USN Naval Special Warfare Development Group Coin

I'm sure you'll note that the relief on the coin is sub-par and not as defined or 3D as the real one. Additionally this one only has 5 Stars as oppossed to the 6 on the real one. There are also some other notable differences as well.

Here are the authentic original versions. **Note: Unfortunately I had to add watermarks to these as I caught an unscrupulous individual stealing and re-posting my images elsewhere. I tried to make them as unobtrusive as possible.*

Below is the second variant of their other Authentic-Original coin issued from their command.

Here is a pic of the uncolored variant from another source with an small explanation.

SEAL Dev Group Coin

Navy SEAL teams beginning with there truly hush-hush' SEAL Team-Six redoux known as "DEVELOPMENT GROUP" ended up creating a challenge coin which has elements of how they fight: Viking like, Indian like, a Scottish lion and ruthlessly like pirates they borrowed from

Those SEALs deployed into the Middle East after 9-11 adopted Calico Jack Rackham's original Skull and Crossed swords on a Black field rectangle and Velcro-ed them on to their Nomex flight suits as than ID of vengeance for the enemy to recognize

While still other SEAL units deployed in Iraq have adopted the and Movie Logo " The Punisher" Skull and much like Army SF units did in Vietnam/ post Vietnam period, for their individual platoonsIncorporated it into their Trident Design and let is stand alone

It should also be noted that there are also individual 'squadrons' which have their own coin as well. As of yet I haven't seen one of these anywhere. If any of our other members have any authentic original pics of coins from this unit I hope they'll feel free to post them and share them with the rest of us.

I love what you are doing with this. I almost want to open a fake or real section just for this. Whats your thoughts?

"happydog,"

Thanks. Moving this to another section sounds good to me. I have no preference either way. I will say though I think if you do this it should be in a 'members only' portion of the site. I'm also curious as to whether you guys found this type of thing useful or not? I think that it would be cool if some of the other members did this for areas of their collections that they know a lot about and share their insights in regards to them as well.

Also, just another comment inregards to the coin. If you look at the one being sold, there are only 5 stars at the bottom of the coin. The authentic one has 6 which is symbolic and acknowledging  their former unit designation of SEAL Team 6
