Vietnam War Why did we Fight? War which many said we had no business fighting. A War that Our Government let down the American Soldier. Why did the United States get involved? Everyone has their own Opinion. So why did we go to War in Vietnam? I think I can give you a short answer in this quote of John F Kennedy; January 20, 1961- John Fitzgerald Kennedy is inaugurated as the 35th U.S. President and declares "...we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to insure the survival and the success of liberty." Reason 1 January 1961 - Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev pledges support for "wars of national liberation" throughout the world. His statement greatly encourages Communists in North Vietnam to escalate their armed struggle to unify Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh. We went to stop the Spread of Communism. The Cold War. When the Soviet Union Got involved, it helped to get the USA involved. Reason 2. To Defend Freedom. Freedom is worth Fighting for. Communist takes away freedoms. Freedom that we Americans take for granted, Freedom that not enjoyed by all. Just ask these Civilian Ladies, Evelyn Anderson, and Beatrice Kosin. They died for Freedom, Freedom of Religion in Vietnam. They were Burned Alive by the North Vietnamese. Or ask Betty Olsen, another Civilian who died and buried by another POW near the Ho Chin Minh Trail. Or ask Eleanor Ardel Vietti Who is still being Held as a POW in Vietnam. These Ladies has paid a High Price. Their Life. They paid for the Freedom of Relegion. Freedom of Speech. Freedom of the Press, To Keep Men Free is reason enough.. Reason 3. We went to fight so the Kids of Vietnam would have a better life. Reason 4. We went because we were asked to help… What kind of Nation would we be if we turned our back on another Nation to fight to remain Free? I have given you 4 reasons why we went to fight. |
