Challenge Coin Additions

2d Challenge Coin Additions 2-Dimensional Challenge Coin

2D coins are common and undertake no additional tooling on a die. This is cheaper to make and can be colored. You can easily see in our image here that the coin is without any full raises and everything sits flat on a coin. This leaves out the 3rd dimension completely but a coin can still be wonderful without it.

Pros:

  • Cheaper to produce
  • Can be painted to match any design
  • Be done on virtually every coin

Cons:

  • Lacks a sense of style

Overall we don’t have complaints about doing 2D, in fact our 2D coins are some of the best in the world hands down. If you got a great design with lots of color it should be done in 2D.

3d Challenge Coin Additions 3-Dimensional Challenge Coin

3D coins are unique and can be a lot of fun to make. They bring an illustrator’s dream pop off of a coin. The only downside of a 3D rendition is that is cannot be painted so instead all the little details are built right into the mold so you get it all. A good mix of 2D and 3D can easily make a coin incredible. 3D adds a little bit to the mold and the unit price but it varies on how extensive the 3D is.

Pros:

  • Brings an image right off the coin
  • Doesn’t need color to support
  • Can be plated with any plate choice

Cons:

  • Can’t be painted
  • Costs a little extra in molding and unit price

Even the extra costs and lack of paints doesn’t give a strong enough reason to rule this option out on your coin. Many coins get the 3D treatment and yours should too.

multi Challenge Coin Additions Multi-Relief Challenge Coins

Multi-Relief coins are an extreme temple that many coins could only dream of becoming. We are now talking three levels of depth in a coin. If I could guesstimate for a second I would say you will find 1 out of every 8,000 coins made in the world with 3 tier relief. So yes you could say this is a very sweet thing to have if you have the right design.

Pros:

  • Its 3 levels of depth…it’s awesome!
  • Rare, which makes the coins that have it very valuable

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • No color

I would accept the cons any day to have coins made like this often. I really think it brings something new to the playing field and lets the creativity continue throughout the rest of the coin.

cut Challenge Coin Additions Cut-Out Challenge Coins

Cutout coins are the some of the coolest coins out there. They break away from the standard circle and make the coin a bit interesting to look at. It also shaves the weight a bit for shipping. Each cutout will cost you in die fee and unit price though. We can do one cutout all the way to 10 if you want. Have some fun with your coins and add some. A cutout coin can be a bottle opener also. This coin has 8 small cutouts in the outer part of the center.

Pros:

  • They are a little different, and fun
  • Less weight
  • Enhance designs like bottle openers

Cons:

  • A little more expensive
  • Depending on how many cutouts, metal might have to be zinc alloy which is lighter than brass

We like cutout coins and think they are cool. If you got one of these then send it in and let’s check it out.

spinner Challenge Coin Additions Spinner Challenge Coins

Spinner coins are unique, fun, but don’t exactly prove a useable product. We love making collectible spinner coins because its a great time getting something out to a unit that is not the average. We have made plenty of these coins and this is in fact one of the hottest areas in minting today. This isn’t for every design but with some humor or class you can manage to create one of the best spinners out there!

Pros:

  • Creates something new and unique
  • Can range all types of topics
  • This will give you a lot of respect from those you hand your coin to

Cons:

  • Not very “useable”
  • Not cheap at all
  • Potentially difficult to handle

As you see we are heavily in love with this type of coin and when you blend other features with this addition you will win everytime.

opener Challenge Coin Additions Bottle Opener

Bottle opener coins are really cool. They have a use to them and everyone loves having a bottle opener on hand. You will sell more of these in your local booster club or whatever you are having them made for. Our company coin is a bottle opener too and it’s because we know and understand people actually want them. Not just a novelty anymore. These coins are in the main stream and thats another reason why we love them!

Pros:

  • Ready for action anywhere, anytime
  • Looks really cool
  • Serves a purpose besides having a coin

Cons:

  • Little more expensive
  • Not so much a collector’s items
  • Not big value on the market

We love bottle openers and you should too. They actually do something besides sit in a rack!

numbered Challenge Coin Additions Punched Digits or Numbers

Punched Digits are a nice touch when you want to make sure your coins are counted. If you want to limit the amount of coins that are on the street then this is for you. Have some numbers punched onto the coins. This is a great way to make your troops feel like they are part of the team. There is nothing like having coin #5 out of 100 coins made. That can help morale and show seniority on the job.

Pros:

  • Great for team building
  • Keeps an accurate account
  • Doesn’t clutter up the coin

Cons:

  • None, this a great addition

Overall we are fine with this and don’t have an opinion either way. It’s a special thing to add and most will appreciate this.

epoxy Challenge Coin Additions Challenge Coin Epoxy

If you ever talk to us in person and ask for epoxy you will often get a look of displeasure. We will do it but we really try to hold back. The coins with epoxy can be difficult to get into a display because of their width which means your coin won’t get displayed. Epoxy also covers the beautiful design that you made. Sure this epoxy protects soft enamel but if it scratches or turns a yellow color it’s not doing much for the coin is it. Our hard enamel doesn’t scratch so you don’t have to protect it. Even though we would love to sell you the epoxy for the bottom line, we can’t support it because it takes away from the coin and doesn’t protect our products. We strongly discourage the use of the epoxy…but you can still have your way. This coin has a coating of epoxy…

Pros:

  • None (I like to think so anyways)

Cons:

  • Covers the design
  • Scratches, Turns Yellow over time
  • Makes the coin to thick to stick in a display
  • Costs more and detracts from the coin

Like this says…we will do it if you want it, but don’t ask us if we like it or think your coin is cooler with it on it.
